Son of LASP...Coming This Fall !

.

It's time to be on the lookout for the Supplementary Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM) dealing with LASP.  The latest word on this revised security regulation proposal by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration is that it is in review by both TSA's parent organization, the U.S. Department of Homeland Secuirty, and the Office of Management and Budget.  Multiple reliable sources say the Son of LASP--that is the second version of the highly controversial Large Aircraft Security Program--will be published in the U.S. Federal Register this Fall for public review and comment.

As soon as we find this document in the public domain, we will post it here so that you can download it and read it.  So stay tuned!

Prepare, Prevent, Respond, and Recover

Homeland Security All-Hazards Approach Applies to Upcoming Son of LASP

The weather is improving.  We can expect to enjoy great flying weather this summer, but be wary of the regulatory storm clouds on the horizon.  This Fall we can expect to see Round 2 of the LASP.  Around here we've given this regulatory re-engagement the nickname "Son of LASP."

While all of us are out this summer enjoying the commeraderie that comes from airshows, air park cookouts, fly-ins and other fun flying and airport activities, take the opportunity when talking with your fellow general aviators to remind them that,"LASP is coming...LASP is coming."  I feel a little like a midnight rider spreading the message signaled by lantern from a church tower.  But we as a general aviation community need to be ready on a minute's notice to respond to proposals of unreasonable and excessive regulation on our flying.

So when you're out there enjoying that family picnic at the airport on the 4th of July--maybe even getting ready to do a couple of patriotic touch-and-goes--remember that freedom isn't free.  Patriotism is practiced at home as well as overseas.  Our fellow general aviators who are also in uniform strive to keep us free by defending us overseas.  Let's not let them down by having them return from their lengthy deployments only to find that their flying freedoms have been shackled because we didn't do the same for them at home.

Let us prepare for Son of LASP; let us prevent unreasonable regulation to restrict our freedom to fly; let us respond to proposals for excessive security; and, finally, let us recover and protect the freedoms to fly for both us and future aviators.  It's only Common Sense.

  • One if by land...
  • Two if by sea...and now
  • Three if by air!

Good job responding to the Aircraft Repair Station Security proposed rule.  Stay engaged!

Cheers from the Alamo,

Dave
